Why Should I Go Into A Cybersecurity Career?
The number of cybersecurity jobs has increased by 94% over the last six years. If you’re looking for a career in cybersecurity, now is the right time. Cybersecurity is a growing industry with a lot of different jobs that offer ample opportunity for career growth. Cyberseek says there are almost 500k job openings. There are more than 6,000 job opportunities in the Tampa / St.Petersburg/ Clearwater area, for example. This means that cybersecurity professionals should always be in demand.
What do cybersecurity workers prefer-a degree or certifications?
While a certificate is cheaper than a degree in cybersecurity, it takes longer and costs more. The degree is more general and can be applied to many industries. However, it requires less practical skills.
The right certification demonstrates that you have a specific skill the employer wants. There is also a legal requirement (see above). Because of all this, according to a recent Information Week’s, Dark Reading salary survey, 70% of workers in cybersecurity said certifications were the most important training in developing their career. Only 10% said they had a bachelor’s and 5% said that they had a master’s.

How Can I Get Hired in Cybersecurity Even Without a Degree?
CompTIA Security+ and CompTIA Network+ are the most crucial certifications you’ll need if cybersecurity is your first topic. This is why: The DOD-8570 regulation is a lesser-known government regulation. Technically, it has been updated by DOD-8140 but still uses the DOD-8570 chart. The document states that you need to have at least one certification if you are in a job that could expose you to sensitive data. CompTIA Security+ is usually the minimum required. This certification is requested by companies even if they will not work for the government. You should be able to get a job if you have these certifications.
