Degree vs Certifications
A degree in cybersecurity is more expensive than a certification and takes much longer. Although the degree gives you a broad understanding that can be used in many industries, it does not have as many hands-on skills.
The right certification demonstrates that you have a specific skill the employer wants. Also, there is a legal requirement (see above). According to Information Week’s Dark Reading salary survey, 70% said that certifications are the most important training for their careers. Only 10% of respondents said they had a bachelor’s or master’s degree, while 5% said they had a combination.

You need at least one of these certifications if your position might expose you to sensitive government information. CompTIA Security+ usually is the minimum certification required.
