Is Cybersecurity a Good Career?
The number of cybersecurity jobs increased by 94% in the last six years. If you’re looking for a career in cybersecurity, now is the right time. Cybersecurity is a growing industry with a lot of different jobs that offer ample opportunity for career growth. Cyberseek estimates that there are nearly 500,000 job opportunities. There are more than 6,000 job opportunities in the Tampa / St.Petersburg/ Clearwater area, for example. This means cybersecurity professionals will always be in high demand.
Degree vs Certifications
A cybersecurity degree costs more than a certification and takes longer. The degree provides a broad range of understanding that can be applied to many different industries but has fewer hands-on skills.
Employers want to see that you have the right certification. Also, there is a legal requirement (see above). All this is why, according to the recent Information Week Dark Reading salary survey 70% of cybersecurity workers said that certifications were their most important training. Only 10% said they had a bachelor’s and 5% said that they had a master’s.

On February 20, 2021, the average cybersecurity professional salary in America was $112974. The average cybersecurity salary is between $65,000 (25th%) to $145,000. (75th%) Entry-level roles typically have lower wages but offer more opportunities for growth and responsibility.

How can I get hired in Cybersecurity without a degree?
CompTIA Security+ and CompTIA Network+ are the most crucial certifications you’ll need if cybersecurity is your first topic. This is why: The DOD-8570 regulation is a lesser-known government regulation. (Technically, it has been updated to DOD-8140, but that uses the old DOD-8570 chart). You must hold at least one certification if you’re in a situation where sensitive government data might be available to you. Typically the minimum asked for is CompTIA Security+. Even companies that do not work with government agencies are required to obtain this certification. You should be able to get a job if you have these certifications.
