Is Cybersecurity a Good Career?
In the last six years, cybersecurity jobs have seen a 94% increase. If you are looking for a career with a high degree of flexibility and change, then cybersecurity is the right career choice. Cybersecurity is a growing industry with a lot of different jobs that offer ample opportunity for career growth. Cyberseek claims that there are over 500,000 job openings. For example, the Tampa / St.Petersburg/ Clearwater job market has over 6,000 open positions. This means that cybersecurity professionals need to be available at all times.
Degree vs Certifications
While a certificate is cheaper than a degree in cybersecurity, it takes longer and costs more. The degree provides a broad range of understanding that can be applied to many different industries but has fewer hands-on skills.
Employers want to see that you have the right certification. Also, there is a legal requirement (see above). All this is why, according to the recent Information Week Dark Reading salary survey 70% of cybersecurity workers said that certifications were their most important training. Only 10% said they had a bachelor’s and 5% said that they had a master’s.
What is the Average Income in Cybersecurity?
On February 20, 2021, the average cybersecurity professional salary in America was $112974. The average cybersecurity salary is between $65,000 (25th%) to $145,000. (75th%) Entry levels typically have lower salaries but offer exceptional work opportunities with greater responsibility and higher mobility.
How can I get trained in just 5 weeks?
Microsoft and CompTIA, internationally recognized industry leaders, created the Cyber Security IT Practitioner program curriculum and hands-on labs and is designed to be able to be completed in five weeks (or ten weeks if you choose evening classes).
How Can I Get Hired in Cybersecurity Even Without a Degree?
CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, are the most essential certifications you will need if your new to cybersecurity. This is why: The DOD-8570 regulation is a lesser-known government regulation. (Technically, it has been updated to DOD-8140, but that uses the old DOD-8570 chart). You must hold at least one certification if you’re in a situation where sensitive government data might be available to you. CompTIA Security+ usually is the minimum certification required. This certification is required by even companies that are not going to work with the government. You should be able to get a job if you have these certifications.
