What do cybersecurity workers prefer-a degree or certifications?
While a certificate is cheaper than a degree in cybersecurity, it takes longer and costs more. Although the degree gives you a broad understanding that can be used in many industries, it does not have as many hands-on skills.
The right certification demonstrates that you have a specific skill the employer wants. The law also requires you to have the right certification (see above). Because of all this, according to a recent Information Week’s, Dark Reading salary survey, 70% of workers in cybersecurity said certifications were the most important training in developing their career. Only 10% said they have a bachelor’s degree while 5% said they have a master’s degree.

How can I get hired as a Cybersecurity professional without a degree?
CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, are the most essential certifications you will need if your new to cybersecurity. This is why: The DOD-8570 regulation is a lesser-known government regulation. Technically, it has been updated by DOD-8140 but still uses the DOD-8570 chart. You must hold at least one certification if you’re in a situation where sensitive government data might be available to you. CompTIA Security+ is the minimum requirement. This certification is requested by companies even if they will not work for the government. These certifications are highly desirable and will help you to be placed.
